Apparently, second-hand cigarette smoke can be harmful to your Nintendo Wii.

Gamers who puff 'n' play the uber-popular video game console could be unknowingly damaging the laser that reads Wii discs. And now that a hotly anticipated new game has exposed the problem, Nintendo is offering to clean the consoles at no charge.

Another reason for me to be happy that I don't smoke. :)

Ah, clean lungs AND a clean Wii... That came out a little more perverted than I meant it to, but... :)

I smoke, but not in my apartment. I dont for 4 reasons

1.) it makes your clothes smell like smoke, entirely - you can never escape it

    2.) it yellows everything

3.) I have kids, they DONT smoke, so I'm not going to force them to just because I'm too lazy to take 5 steps to the porch

4.) it's hell on anything electronic - computers, tvs, receivers, consoles, etc. Anything with an electrostatic field attracts dust and smoke.

I should send them my Wii just to have it cleaned.

Same here, outside only. I repair and clean electronic equipment, the mirror on the rear projection TVs that come for a smokers house are a mess, amazing the nicotine build up.

From what I understand, cigarette smoke is bad for all electronics.

When I did computer repair for my university, I had to open a few computers belonging to heavy smokers. The worst I saw had a film of tarry gunk covering everything inside the case. Most of them were having overheating problems because of the accumulation of crud. The smell was nauseating, especially when they got warm. If some Wii-owning smokers aren't noticing problems with the laser yet, it's just a matter of time until the buildup causes other problems.
